Arimidex is a prescription capsule used in the treatment of breast cancer among postmenopausal women. It consists of the drug anastrozole. Arimidex is used to lower levels of estrogen in postmenopausal women, thereby slowing the development of certain types of breast tumors. Generally it is administered to women when their cancer progresses even after taking tamoxifen (Nolvadex, Soltamox). Arimidex needs to be taken for up to 5 years for best results.

Most importantly, Arimidex is also known to cause heart diseases in women with early breast cancer onset and osteoporosis due to the fact that it lowers the estrogen levels in the body making bones weaker and softer.
